Kristeva's blog

With a little help from my friends

My name is Kristeva Dowling and I live in Bella Coola, a remote First Nations village on the west coast of British Columbia. In 2008, I quit my job in Regina, Saskatchewan, returned to the Bella Coola to join my husband again, and committed to a project that I have dreamed  of attempting for several years. That is, to learn how to grow fruits and vegetables, raise meat animals, fish, hunt, and gather from the wild. Neither of us have agricultural backgrounds so needless to say the learning curve has been steep!

My mentors are all pesticide free and ethical gardeners and farmers. They include but are not limited to: Gene Logsdon, Bill Mollison, Joel Salatin, Carla Emery, Elliot Coleman, Masanobu Fukuoka, and my friend Dave Aislabie who taught me how to raise vegetables on his organic farm in New Zealand.

Here is my video clip that I submitted to the 'David Suzuki Digs My Garden' contest.
