TORONTO | CANADA — The David Suzuki Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Pierre Iachetti as its new executive director, effective September 15, 2025.

Iachetti brings more than two decades of experience at the intersection of climate solutions, biodiversity conservation and social innovation. His leadership has spanned major conservation agreements, Indigenous-led housing and renewable energy initiatives and groundbreaking decarbonization projects in health care and infrastructure.

“As the David Suzuki Foundation marks its 35th anniversary, we’re thrilled to welcome Pierre as our new executive director,” said Jocelyn Joe-Strack, chair of the board of directors. “He brings a rare blend of scientific expertise, community leadership and bold vision. His commitment to justice, equity and decolonization reflects our values, and his collaborative approach will strengthen our response to the urgent multi-crisis of today.”

Iachetti was part of the scientific team that laid the foundations for the Great Bear Rainforest agreement and the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area, and has led conservation planning for Haida Gwaii, the Central Coast, the Salish Sea, the Canadian Rockies and Waterton Park. He has held leadership roles with the Nature Conservancy of Canada, ForestEthics, the College of Applied Biology and Island Health, where he advanced pioneering decarbonization and sustainability initiatives.

“Conservation is about more than protecting places; it’s about honouring the people, knowledge and relationships that sustain them,” Iachetti said. “I’m honoured to join the David Suzuki Foundation at this pivotal moment and to help chart bold paths toward ecological resilience and justice.”

A LEED accredited professional, professional agrologist and registered professional planner, Iachetti has conducted academic work exploring the integration of Indigenous knowledge, traditional building practices and renewable energy systems. He is also a founding board member of the Roots to Roofs Community Development Society, which supports Indigenous-led housing and renewable energy projects.

“What inspires me most is working with people — creating teams, partnerships and ideas that move us closer to a just, sustainable future,” Iachetti said. “I’m excited to build on the Foundation’s incredible legacy and help shape its next chapter together.”
