The fight’s not over: Repeal Bill 5

Ford’s Bill 5 guts species protection and overrides treaty rights

Bill 5 passed. The fight isn’t over.

Doug Ford just rammed through Bill 5 — legislation that guts the Endangered Species Act, overrides Indigenous rights and gives developers a blank cheque to bulldoze lands and waters, including protected areas.

It’s being sold as economic reform. In reality, it’s an attack on our environment, democracy and future.

Ford wasted no time in declaring his first “special economic zone” in the Ring of Fire.

This flies in the face of provincial and federal commitments to uphold Indigenous Peoples’ inherent and treaty rights. It allows unchecked development with no consent, no environmental rules and no accountability.

This isn’t progress. It’s erasure.

But we’ve stopped Ford before.

When he tried to carve up the Greenbelt and hand it over to his developer buddies, public pressure forced a reversal.

We can stop him again.

We can demand that our MPPs repeal Bill 5.

We can ask our city councils to pass motions against Bill 5.

We can show up to protests.

We can stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities defending their rights.
