Support phasing out open net-pens in the Discovery Islands

Support the decision to phase out Discovery Islands salmon farms

Recently, the federal government made a historic commitment to phase out open net-pen salmon farms in the Discovery Islands over the next 18 months.

These farms are in the traditional territory of seven First Nations that are overwhelmingly opposed to them. They are also in one of the most important migration corridors for wild salmon in British Columbia. Removing these farms is a significant step forward on Canada’s reconciliation journey and will reduce risks to wild salmon from open net-pen salmon aquaculture.

Since the announcement was made, federal Fisheries Minister Bernadette Jordan has received significant pushback for her decision.

Help show the government that phasing out Discovery Islands open net-pen salmon farms was the right decision and has broad support! Send a letter with your appreciation to Bernadette Jordan and the Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans for their groundbreaking decision.

With the lowest Fraser River sockeye salmon returns on record and out-of-control sea lice on fish farms, wild salmon need this government to stick to its commitment to remove salmon farms from the Discovery Islands.

Take action now to encourage the government remain firm in its decision.
