Why does Canada allow a pesticide banned in Europe?

Because Bayer meddled in Canada's assessment

Help us reverse a flawed government decision on a risky chemical pesticide.

The National Observer recently reported that Bayer Crop Science inappropriately influenced Canada’s 2021 scientific evaluation of the pesticide imidacloprid, which Bayer sells. Urgent action is needed to restore the integrity of Canada’s pesticide regulatory system and protect the environment.

Imidacloprid, a neonicotinoid insecticide, is known for its negative effects on bees, birds and aquatic life. The European Union banned “neonics,” including imidacloprid, in 2018 because of environmental risks, and Canada initially proposed to end outdoor use of these chemicals.

However, the federal government later reversed this decision after removing independent water monitoring data from the risk assessment, which the National Observer suggests was done at Bayer’s request.

Join us in demanding an independent scientific review of the decision, free from industry influence. Unbiased experts should lead this neonic pesticide review, ensuring a transparent process based on sound science. Protecting the integrity of regulations is crucial for our health and environment.
