Walking along Napitaah (“Old Man River” in Blackfoot), my son bent down with cupped hands to drink. I told him it wasn’t safe. Elders living today once drank from the river. But we can’t. It’s too polluted. This worry makes me want to act, because I love my children, Earth, animals and people. My mom taught me that water is healing. This is Nipiy Atoyokan (“Water Spirit” in Cree), said to be a mermaid.
