The Sustainable Diversity Network was a volunteer network with eight core members from different backgrounds in Vancouver. It was launched in conjunction with the release of the David Suzuki Foundation’s “Sustainable Diversity” report in 2015 and operated until 2019.
What was the Sustainable Diversity Network’s goal?
The group’s shared goal was to advance understanding of sustainability and expand the environmental movement by celebrating voices and stories that are often unheard or unacknowledged.
The group hosted events, film screenings and dialogues to help connect people of diverse backgrounds in Canada with Indigenous Peoples to learn about each other and share wisdom, history and stories about nature. People joined with the understanding that regardless of where we or our ancestors came from, we are all united in Canada in our love for the natural environment and our commitment to making it better for each generation.
Meet the Sustainable Diversity Network’s founding members
The Sustainable Diversity Network had eight founding members. They are husbands, wives, children and parents. Although some are immigrants who call Canada home, others have deeper roots in the country. They came together because they share the same passion for a healthy environment and cultural diversity.
