Bring Canada’s nature plan to life

Canada needs to expand and extend investments in nature

In December 2022, Canada hosted a landmark summit on the global nature crisis. Countries agreed to a series of targets to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. The federal government followed through with the 2030 Nature Strategy for Canada — an action plan for meeting those targets domestically. But many key actions identified in the Nature Strategy have yet to be funded.

Canada’s next budget must provide the necessary resources to fully implement the 2030 Nature Strategy and meet its nature-protection commitments, as recommended by the Green Budget Coalition.

Meanwhile, proposed accountability legislation, the Nature Accountability Act, has stalled in the House of Commons. This bill needs to be strengthened and passed into law if our leaders are serious about giving nature a fighting chance.

Time is ticking! Short-changing nature protection affects the ultimate bottom line — planetary health.

Send a letter to let your MP know you support investments in nature protection and legislation to keep our government transparent and accountable to its promises.
