Ask the B.C. government to cut methane from fracking

B.C.’s best bet for cutting climate pollution

We have a short window to get the B.C. government to enact one of the cheapest, fastest and most effective climate solutions available.

In September, the B.C. government responded to our requests to cut methane pollution by presenting us with an outline of the upcoming regulations. We asked more detailed questions, to assess whether the proposed regulations will live up to best practices from leading jurisdictions.

Please help make sure the government stays on track and doesn’t cave to pressure from the oil and gas industry, which has opposed strong climate policies.

Send your message now to eliminate methane pollution from B.C.’s biggest industrial carbon polluter: the oil and gas sector.

Methane is 84 times more powerful than carbon dioxide over a 20-year time frame. Leading scientists estimate this gas alone is responsible for a quarter of the changes to Earth’s climate. Recent research also reveals that methane pollution from B.C.’s oil and gas sector (mainly fracked gas) is at least 2.5 times greater than has been reported. This finding challenges the claim that natural gas, including liquefied natural gas, is a “clean” transition fuel.

If we take action, reducing methane emissions can be a big part of the solution.
