Vancouver Council received the Climate Emergency Action Plan Report. Residents of Vancouver let council know that they were unhappy that plan is underfunded and not meeting its emissions reduction targets. Council responded by passing a motion to add comprehensive financial and carbon reporting on the City of Vancouver’s climate mitigation and adaptation work. But, council did undermine the Climate Justice Charter that was developed to ensure an equity analysis of climate initiatives. So, we will need to to hold council to account if we are going to build a more livable sustainable city. Council will consider climate action in its upcoming budget and in the near future it will consider policies to decarbonize space and water heating in detached houses and condos. Please stay tuned.
