On March 15, the federal government closed a consultation about changes and “flexibilities” it is considering as it finalizes Canada’s clean electricity regulations. These flexibilities would allow new fossil gas to be added to Canada’s electricity mix and allow existing gas-fired plants to stay online until 2045 or later.
More than 1,000 people from all walks of life, including youth, doctors, farmers and retirees wrote directly to policy-makers to urge the government to listen to people, not polluters. The letters called for the federal government to deliver strong regulations that enable 100 per cent affordable, reliable, zero-emissions electricity across Canada by 2035. As the government puts the final touches on this important climate policy, it will be important for all of us to continue taking action for #RenewablePowerForAll
