You asked Toronto for a strong climate action plan

More than 800 Toronto residents emailed Mayor Tory and their city councillors, demanding a climate plan with actions that will take the city to net-zero.

Good news! On December 15, 2021, Toronto city council passed the TransformTO Net Zero Strategy, committing to an ambitious target of net-zero emissions by 2040. The strategy also contains an important interim target to keep our emissions reductions on track.

So, what’s next for Toronto’s climate plan?

In January, the city begins its annual budgeting process; we’ll be paying close attention to its plans to fund and resource the strategy. The city’s support for public transit will be key. We’ll also be pressuring the federal and provincial governments to provide operational transit funding that will help transit systems throughout the country survive the current crisis.
