Big, heavy, polluting vehicles make it difficult to bend down carbon emissions. Eighty per cent of new vehicle sales in Canada are sport utility vehicles or light-duty trucks. This report explores what motivates consumer interest in SUVs, and what conditions might lead consumers to shift toward smaller vehicles.
