Climate solutions renewable energy, climate change, fossil fuels
This report shows findings from a March 2026 national omnibus survey conducted by Léger of 1,660 people across Canada aged 18 and older, which explores public opinion on expanding and upgrading Canada’s electricity grid.
Overall, the results show strong public support for building a more connected, east-west electricity grid:
- 72 per cent support federal funding for expanding the grid through new transmission lines, while only nine per cent oppose.
- In addition, an even larger majority of 76 per cent support upgrading Canada’s electricity grid to reduce reliance on the United States as an electricity partner.
The survey findings suggest that people living in Canada broadly recognize the benefits of a more connected electricity grid, including improved reliability, affordability and increased capacity for renewable energy.
